Millennials: The future of our workplace

McQuaig Millennials Article from The McQuaig Psychometric System from HolstMillennials: The future of our workplace

Have you noticed your workforce is getting younger?  Sometimes your newer team members seem to speak a different language.  They certainly have a different view of the world and their place in it.

Don’t worry.  It isn’t an alien invasion.  These people are Millennials, also known as Generation Y.  Born between 1982 and 2002, they make up over 35% of the workforce.

Previous generations tended to slot into the workforce seamlessly, but changes in culture and most importantly technology have broadened the horizons of our Millennials.  Managers can be left confused when well trodden paths of leadership and motivation no longer hit the mark.

The questions are:

  • What motivates them?
  • How do they learn?
  • How best to manage them?

As the population ages and business leaders retire, the success of any organisation will depend on its ability to attract, retain, motivate and develop the younger generation.  The right tools and skills are essential in this task.
